The place

The Natural History Museum is inside the Visitor Centre of the Circeo National Park, at Via Carlo Alberto 188 in Sabaudia. It covers about 350 square metres and is designed mainly as an information and outreach facility, introducing visitors to the environmental, historical and archaeological values of the protected area and helping them plan their visit.

The route is not a traditional display of scientific collections, but uses scenic and interactive installations that let you listen, touch, observe and experiment. Dioramas, videos, tactile stations, natural specimens, interactive games and three-dimensional displays tell the story of the five main environments protected by the Park: the coastal Dune, the Circeo promontory, the Wetlands with the four lakes and marshy areas, the lowland forest and the island of Zannone. One section is devoted to the area’s archaeological and historical heritage.

The displays include a representation of the underground world and its wildlife, with burrows and habitats of foxes, porcupines, badgers, weasels, ants and scorpions. The marine environment and the island of Zannone are also presented through a small aquarium. The museum is designed to make the visit understandable and engaging for adults, children, students, families and people with physical and mental disabilities.
