The place

The Visitor Centre of the Circeo National Park is at the entrance to Sabaudia, at Via Carlo Alberto 188, and is the main reception and orientation point for visiting the protected area. The same complex houses the Park offices and the Natural History Museum, which can be visited free of charge.

The outdoor areas include several educational displays on the life and traditional activities of the area before and during the Reclamation: a charcoal kiln, a woodcutters’ hut, an area for cutting and working logs and a shelter for mules and horses. There is also a small educational pond with marsh vegetation and typical wildlife, a reminder of the marshy origins of much of the area.

The site also has a shaded picnic area with tables, benches and a drinking fountain, a children’s play area, toilets, a small amphitheatre and other visitor services. The educational trail starts from the Centre, crossing part of the lowland forest, passing a clearing with the characteristic huts known locally as «lestre» and finally reaching the shores of Lake Sabaudia.

The Visitor Centre also has a small library open to the public by appointment.
