An honest survey: which Circeo points of interest are accessible, which partly, and which are not.
The Circeo is a territory of difficult morphology: a steep promontory, paths on live rock, sand dunes. Saying ‘everything is accessible’ would be false and would help nobody. Here is an honest survey, point by point.
Fully accessible
Rationalist Sabaudia — level town centre, wide pavements and flat porticoes.
Park Visitor Centre — barrier-free entrance and exhibition rooms.
Villa Fogliano — the garden’s main routes are level and largely compacted.
Sabaudia lakefront — level promenade facing Lake Paola.
Bufalara area — equipped area with car park and an accessible first stretch of trail.
Partly accessible
Sabaudia Beach and the Eastern Shore — some beach clubs have walkways over the sand and beach wheelchairs. Availability varies by establishment and season: phone ahead.
San Felice harbour — level port area; boarding the inflatables is not accessible.
Coastal dune — the wooden walkways reach the viewpoints but have gradients and joints that are not always easy.
Not accessible
In fairness, these places cannot be visited with reduced mobility and will not become so without works that would compromise their protection:
Picco di Circe, the Precipizio Trail, Quarto Caldo and Quarto Freddo — rock paths with steps and exposed sections.
Acropolis of Circeii — route over loose stone.
Le Bagnaiole and the promontory caves — cliff access.
A real alternative
