Small secluded beach at the foot of the Circeo cliffs, reachable by sea or by path, a stopping point along the wildest and least developed stretch of the promontory’s coast, appreciated by those looking for isolated coves away from the busier beaches of the Pontine coast.
Just after passing several small caves half hidden by thick vegetation, the view opens onto the “Bombardieri beach”. It is a beautiful little cove where boats usually stop during the tourist trip around the promontory. Its very evocative name (“bombers’ beach”) recalls the once widespread but fortunately vanished practice of poaching fish with home-made bombs. Detonating old war devices made for very abundant catches but was also very dangerous: quite a few people suffered mutilations and even fatal injuries.
