Grotta Lanzuisi

Caves
The place

Cave on the Circeo promontory that shares its name with one of the historic squares of the centre of San Felice Circeo (Piazza Lanzuisi, now Piazza Vittorio Veneto), showing the place-name links between the natural sites of the promontory and the urban history of the village.

During a spearfishing trip, the surveyor Enzo Lanzuisi discovered this large cave on the stretch of coast between Torre Cervia and the small private harbour, in the middle of the cove named after the Tower. The cave opens at water level with a low and rather narrow vault. You enter through a half-submerged passage, swimming along a corridor about 25 metres long, over a rather shallow bottom home to many sea urchins. You then reach the dry cave, a fairly large chamber whose floor is covered with large limestone blocks, the remains of a landslide on the slope above.
